Shands Bridge construction brings brief delays to SR 16, SR 13 intersection this week

Drivers traveling through the SR 16/SR 13 intersection in St. Johns County should expect brief delays this week as construction crews work to advance the Shands Bridge project.According to the Florida Department of Transportation, traffic will be temporarily stopped at the intersection between noon and 3 p.m. from Sept. 14–18 to allow delivery trucks to bring in girders for the new bridge.FDOT says the deliveries are a key step in the project, as they will allow the construction team to build three new spans on the St. Johns County side of the Shands Bridge. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route, if possible, or plan for additional travel time to reach their destination.
